Temptation Blues

(Alan Newbery)
Temptation Blues 2/2/2009

With smoke on my breath and women on my mind
I ache to indulge pleasures that I know will send me blind
I’ve got the Temptation Blues They creep up deep and slow
I know my habits harm me But I just cant seem to let them go
I’ve got a woman waiting at least here in my mind
Waiting to come to life when I touch her and treat her kind
She’s got long smooth legs Id like to ride her thighs
But God knows what I’d do with that emptiness in her eyes

Temptation temptation blues
I know what I’d gain but what would I loose
Temptation temptation blues
Lord how I struggle with right to choose?

Just like in the garden when Adam said to Eve
What kinda tasty tricks have you got up your sleeve?
I don’t understand why there’s an apple to bite
Or why I feel I should resist it with all of my might
Eve she said Adam I’m handing you no jive
One little bite will make you come alive
But Adam looks down n says “maybe not today”
It sure looks tempting but what price will I pay?

Walking past a bar I don’t even think
I just walk on in for a long cold drink
Settling on that stool is just like comin’ home
But I wake up in the morning feelin’ like a faded garden gnome
Women and parties and staying out late
I’m even loosin’ my sight cause I tend to masturbate
And talk about smoking I used to love to puff
It took a heart attack before I found I'd had enough
